Congress Fields Himachal Minister, MLA for Key Lok Sabha Seats
In a strategic move ahead of the upcoming elections, the Congress party has announced its candidates for two crucial Lok Sabha seats in Himachal Pradesh, setting the stage for a high-profile contest. MLA from Kasauli, Vinod Sultanpuri, has been chosen to contest from the Shimla Lok Sabha seat. Meanwhile, Vikramaditya Singh, a state minister and a prominent figure in Himachal Pradesh politics, will be contesting against BJP's candidate and Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut in Manali.

Vikramaditya Singh, who holds the portfolio of PWD Minister and is a two-time MLA from Shimla Rural assembly segment, carries a significant political legacy as the son of Virbhadra Singh, a six-time chief minister, and Pratibha Singh, the current MP from Mandi and president of the Congress state unit. His royal lineage as the titular king of the erstwhile princely state of Bushahr adds to his political persona. Singh's educational background includes an alumni status from St. Stephen's College, Delhi, and a post-graduate degree in history. His involvement in politics was marked by his role as Himachal Pradesh Youth Congress president from 2013 to 2018.
On the other side, Vinod Sultanpuri, contesting for the Shimla SC Lok Sabha seat, is stepping into the electoral arena with a fresh perspective. As the son of former MP Krishan Dutt Sultanpuri and a first-time MLA elected in 2022, Sultanpuri's candidacy is seen as an infusion of new blood into the party's campaign efforts. His educational qualifications include an LLB from ILS Law College, Pune, and he has previously served as Youth Congress Solan district unit chief and national secretary of the outfit.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has already announced its candidates for all four Lok Sabha seats in Himachal Pradesh. The Congress party's decision to field Vikramaditya Singh and Vinod Sultanpuri is seen as a direct challenge to the BJP, which secured all four seats with a significant majority in the 2019 general elections. The upcoming elections are thus poised to be a battleground for both parties, with significant implications for their political fortunes in Himachal Pradesh.
The death of Ram Swaroop Sharma led to the Mandi parliamentary bypolls in 2021, which saw Pratibha Singh securing a victory. This win has added momentum to the Congress party's campaign efforts in the region. As the election narrative unfolds, all eyes will be on these key constituencies as they could play a pivotal role in determining the political landscape of Himachal Pradesh.
The Congress party's strategy appears to be focused on leveraging its candidates' strong political backgrounds and public service records to appeal to voters. With candidates like Vikramaditya Singh and Vinod Sultanpuri, who bring a mix of royal heritage, political legacy, and fresh energy to the fray, the party aims to make significant inroads in the upcoming elections.
