Congress failed to take everyone along: Sibal on MCD elections loss

Sheila Dikshit on Wednesday said that Congress did not campaign agressively for the MCD polls.

With the Congress finishing at third place behind the BJP and the AAP, senior party leader Kapil Sibal on Thursday said it failed to take everyone along.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Sibal said at least those who played a major role in transforming Delhi should have been taken along.

Former Delhi chief minister and Congress leader Sheila Dikshit on Wednesday said that she had not been invited to campaign for party candidates for the MCD elections.

"I was not invited for any of the campaign programmes. If I would have been informed I would have certainly done," she told media persons in the national capital.

On Wednesday, Ajay Maken quit as Delhi Congress chief after party's dismal show in MCD elections.

Woes for the Congress began when several prominent leaders left the party days before April 23 civic polls, including Arvinder Singh Lovely and Barkha Shukla Singh.

The BJP won 181 of the 270 wards of the three municipal corporations in Delhi. The BJP won 64 of 103 wards in North, 70 of 104 in South and 47 of 63 in East.

The AAP and the Congress could only manage 48 and 30 seats respectively.
