Congress didn't object Bopaiah's appointment in 2008!

In fast-paced political development in Karnataka, Governor Vajubhai Vala appointed KG Bopaiah as pro tem speaker of the assembly ahead of floor test tomorrow. The Congress is getting ready for one more round of legal battle with the BJP against the 'controversial' move of the Governor.

Pro Tem Speaker KG Bopaiah

Senior leaders told media persons that they may move Supreme Court over the issue. They said that when Congress MLA RV Deshpande is the senior most MLA in the house KG Bopaiah's appointment violated the rule of seniority.

Meanwhile, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar tweeted about previous incidences where a younger MLA was appointed as Speaker. He recalled that KG Bopaiah was appointed as Pro Tem speaker by then Governor Rameshwar Thakur in 2008. He termed the Congress party's objection as 'hypocrisy'.

Javadekar tweeted, "Shri KG Bopaiah was appointed as Pro Tem speaker even in 2008 by the then Governor. That time Bopaiah was 10 years younger than what he is today. The Congress is thus raising hoax objection. The appointment of Bopaiah Ji is as per rules and regulations."

"When Shri Rameshwar Thakur Ji as Governor had appointed Shri Bhopaiah as Protem Speaker of Karnataka in 2008 Congress didn't object. In Jharkhand when a junior MLA was appointed, Cong leader @DrAMSinghvi defended it in Court. Now they are objecting. This is Congress hypocrisy."
