Congress Demands Amit Shah's Apology For Remarks On BR Ambedkar
The Congress party has accused Home Minister Amit Shah of expressing disdain for B R Ambedkar during a Rajya Sabha debate. They claim his remarks reveal deep-seated animosity from the BJP and RSS towards Ambedkar. Former Congress leader Rahul Gandhi remarked that those who adhere to Manusmriti would naturally oppose Ambedkar's ideals.
Jairam Ramesh, Congress general secretary in charge of communications, shared a video clip on X of Shah's speech. In it, Shah commented, "Abhi ek fashion ho gaya hai - Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar. Itna naam agar bhagwan ka lete to saat janmon tak swarg mil jata." This translates to "It has become a fashion to say Ambedkar repeatedly. If they had taken God's name so many times, they would have got a place in heaven."

Congress Demands Apology
Ramesh criticised Shah's statement as "very disgusting," asserting it demonstrates the BJP and RSS leaders' hatred for Ambedkar. He noted that these leaders are irritated even by hearing Ambedkar's name. Ramesh demanded an apology from Shah, stating that such remarks are shameful.
K C Venugopal, Congress general secretary in charge of organisation, also condemned Shah's comments. He emphasised that Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar is revered like a deity and the Constitution he drafted is sacred to millions worldwide. Venugopal questioned how Shah could speak about Ambedkar with such contempt.
Allegations Against BJP
Venugopal further alleged that the BJP's disdain for Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar has always been evident. He claimed that Shah's statements in the Rajya Sabha confirm their dislike for Ambedkar. According to Venugopal, those who follow Manusmriti will always oppose Ambedkar's rejection of casteist ideologies.
He accused the BJP of mocking India's respect for Dr. Ambedkar and suggested that those who once pretended to honour him can no longer conceal their true feelings. Venugopal argued that this reveals the BJP leadership has lost the right to speak about Ambedkar.
Shah Criticises Congress
During the Rajya Sabha session, Amit Shah criticised the Congress party, accusing them of treating the Constitution as their private domain and deceiving Parliament. He concluded a two-day debate on India's Constitution by attacking Congress for its appeasement politics.
Shah claimed that Congress aimed to exceed the 50% reservation limit to provide quotas for Muslims. He questioned whether Congress supported Muslim personal law and alleged they never worked for backward classes' welfare.
Shah highlighted that the BJP has already implemented a Uniform Civil Code in Uttarakhand and plans to extend it nationwide. This move is part of their broader agenda to unify civil laws across all states.
