Congress Takes Action: Sanjay Nirupam Expelled Over 'Anti-Party' Remarks
The Congress party has expelled senior leader Sanjay Nirupam for six years, citing 'indiscipline' and 'anti-party statements'. The decision was taken in response to complaints of indiscipline and anti-party remarks made by Nirupam, as confirmed in a letter issued by Congress general secretary KC Venugopal.
Nirupam's expulsion comes shortly after he criticised the state party leadership during discussions about seat-sharing with Shiv Sena (UBT) for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Earlier, Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole had announced disciplinary action against Nirupam, stating that his name had been removed from the list of star campaigners. Patole emphasized that action was necessary due to the nature of Nirupam's recent statements.
In response, Nirupam took to social media platform X, suggesting that the Congress should focus its efforts on saving the party rather than expending energy on him. He indicated that he would reveal his next steps soon, hinting at potential future actions.
Nirupam's criticism of the Maharashtra Congress leadership intensified after Shiv Sena (UBT) unilaterally announced candidates for four out of six Lok Sabha seats in Mumbai, including the Mumbai North West constituency that Nirupam was eyeing. He criticized the Congress leadership for allowing Shiv Sena (UBT) to dictate terms.
Nirupam, who lost the 2014 elections from Mumbai North-West against BJP's Gopal Shetty, had expressed a desire to contest from the same constituency again. However, Shiv Sena (UBT) thwarted his plans by fielding its own candidate.
