Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge Launches Counter Attack On PM Modi With These Four Questions

Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge gave a scathing reply to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "browbeat and bully others is vintage Congress culture" comment. Kharge blamed the Prime Minister for "weakening our country", and "usurping" the powers of institutions and interfering in the judiciary system.

PM Modi's remark came a day ago, after 600 lawyers, in a letter to CJI DY Chandrachud alleged that "a vested interest group" is trying to undermine the integrity of the Indian judiciary system.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge

Hitting out at PM, Kharge asked 4 questions related to India's autonomous institutions, alleging that don't think of them as your personal property:

  1. You conveniently forget that 4 senior-most Supreme Court judges were forced to hold an unprecedented press conference and warn against the "destruction of Democracy". That happened under your regime.
  2. One of the judges was nominated by your Govt to the Rajya Sabha. So WHO wants a 'committed judiciary'?
  3. You forget that your party has fielded a Former HC Judge in West Bengal for the current Lok Sabha elections. Why was this candidature bestowed on him?
  4. Who brought the National Judicial Appointments Commission (NJAC)? Why was it stuck down by the Hon'ble Supreme Court?

The grand old party chief alleged that independent institutions are being 'bullied' by Prime Minister, so he should stop pinning the blame on the Opposition, calling him the maestro of manipulation of democracy.

A day ago, PM Modi, in a post on X, said, "To browbeat and bully others is vintage Congress culture. Five decades ago, they itself had called for a 'committed judiciary' - they shamelessly want commitment from others for their selfish interests, but desist from any commitment towards the nation."
