Congress Reveals Candidates for Three Jharkhand Lok Sabha Constituencies

In a significant political development from Ranchi, the Congress party unveiled its candidates for three key Lok Sabha constituencies in Jharkhand, namely Lohardaga, Khunti, and Hazaribag. This announcement came after a crucial meeting of the party's Central Election Committee (CEC) in New Delhi. Congress Legislature Party leader Alamgir Alam shared this update, highlighting ongoing discussions on seat-sharing among INDIA bloc partners.

Congress Names Jharkhand Candidates

Kalicharan Munda, Sukhdeo Bhagat, and Jai Prakashbhai Patel have been chosen to represent the Congress in the upcoming polls for Khunti ST, Lohardaga ST, and Hazaribagh seats respectively. Notably, Patel, a Mandu MLA who recently switched from BJP to Congress, will contest from Hazaribag. In the 2019 elections, the seat was contested by Gopal Prasad Sahu from Congress but was won by BJP's Jayant Sinha. This year, BJP has nominated MLA Manish Jaiswal for the same constituency.

The selection of candidates comes as part of the Congress's strategy for the Lok Sabha elections in Jharkhand, which are scheduled in the last four phases. The CEC is expected to release more names gradually. Meanwhile, discussions on seat-sharing within the INDIA bloc are progressing, with an initial agreement suggesting Congress would contest seven seats and JMM five. The RJD and CPIML are expected to contest one seat each.

Despite an agreement on seat distribution among most constituencies, a final decision is pending due to RJD's demand for the Chatra constituency. In 2019, BJP's Sunil Kumar Singh secured a victory in Chatra but has been replaced by Kalicharan Singh for the current election cycle.

Amid these developments, Congress State president Rajesh Thakur accused the BJP of being in disarray and relying on leaders from Congress and JMM to find suitable candidates. This statement was in reference to Congress MP Geeta Kora and JMM MLA Sita Soren joining BJP and being fielded from Singbhum and Dumka Lok Sabha seats respectively.

A BJP spokesperson countered these claims by stating that individuals across political spectrums are drawn to the party due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's development initiatives. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP dominated with 11 seats while AJSU Party, Congress, and JMM secured one seat each in Jharkhand.

The state is gearing up for elections across its 14 constituencies in four phases starting May 18. The BJP has already announced its candidates for 13 seats and has allocated Giridih to the AJSU Party. Among notable decisions includes fielding former JMM MLA and Hemant Soren's sister-in-law from Dumka ST constituency and nominating Dulu Mahto for Dhanbad while dropping sitting MP Pashupati Nath Singh.

This election cycle sees a mix of new faces and seasoned politicians with Union ministers Arjun Munda and Annapurna Devi seeking re-election from their respective constituencies alongside other previously announced candidates.
