Congress's Bhajabal Majhi First to File Nomination for Odisha Elections

In a significant development marking the onset of the election season in Odisha, Congress candidate Bhajabal Majhi and BJP candidate Manoranjan Dyan Samantray have initiated the nomination filing process for the upcoming Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections, respectively. This event underscores the commencement of electoral proceedings in the state, setting the stage for a keenly watched political battle.

Majhi Leads Odisha Poll Nominations

On Thursday, Bhajabal Majhi became the first Lok Sabha nominee in Odisha to submit his nomination papers, as confirmed by poll officials. Representing Congress, Majhi's move is seen as a significant step for his party in the Nabarangpur constituency. On a parallel note, BJP's Manoranjan Dyan Samantray, contesting from the Chikiti assembly seat in Ganjam district, marked his entry as the first Vidhan Sabha election candidate to file nomination papers.

The electoral process for four Lok Sabha seats – Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Koraput, and Berhampur – alongside 28 assembly constituencies commenced on Thursday. These areas are gearing up for polls in the first phase on May 13. The nomination period is set to continue until April 25, with scrutiny scheduled for April 26. Candidates will have until April 29 to withdraw their nominations.

Candidates Express Optimism

Accompanied by a group of supporters, Majhi approached the collectorate to submit his papers to District Election Officer and Collector Kamal Lochan Mishra. Having previously secured victory in three assembly elections from Dabugam assembly seat, Majhi is now venturing into the Lok Sabha election arena for the first time. Post-nomination, he expressed confidence in Congress's prospects, emphasizing the electorate's desire for governmental change at both state and central levels. Majhi is optimistic about Congress securing victory in Nabarangpur Lok Sabha seat and its seven assembly segments.

Conversely, Manoranjan Dyan Samantray steps into the electoral fray as a newcomer. His participation signifies a fresh face in Odisha's political landscape, representing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from Chikiti assembly seat.

Electoral Process Underway

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Nikunja Bihari Dhal outlined the nomination filing schedule, emphasizing its critical role in facilitating a smooth electoral process. With nominations now open, Odisha's political atmosphere is charged with anticipation as parties and candidates gear up for what promises to be a closely contested election.

The initiation of nomination filings by candidates like Bhajabal Majhi and Manoranjan Dyan Samantray marks a pivotal moment in Odisha's political timeline. As parties rally their support and strategize for the upcoming elections, all eyes are on this eastern state of India, awaiting what could be a transformative electoral outcome.
