Congress Alleges Assault on Rithala Candidate Sushant Mishra by Election Commission Official
The Congress party has accused a polling official of assaulting its Rithala candidate, Sushant Mishra. They have called for a comprehensive investigation into the matter and demanded action against the official involved. Jairam Ramesh, the party's general secretary, stated that Mishra was attacked by an Election Commission of India (ECI) official.

Ramesh further alleged that the official tried to stop Mishra from conducting a Padayatra, despite having permission from the Delhi Police. In a post on X, Ramesh highlighted Mishra's active role in addressing violations of the Model Code of Conduct by other candidates in the ongoing Delhi Vidhan Sabha elections.
Allegations of Partisanship
Ramesh described the incident as an "unprecedented and illegal act of partisanship" by an ECI official. He suggested it was a desperate move by the AAP and BJP to counteract growing support for Mishra and the Congress party in the elections. The Congress remains resolute in its commitment to uphold electoral integrity.
The party has insisted on a full inquiry into the incident to maintain the sanctity of elections. They demand immediate corrective measures against the official involved. The Congress leader emphasised their determination to continue advocating for people's rights and ensuring fair elections.
Formal Complaints Lodged
Sushant Mishra has also taken independent action by writing to the returning officer, Chief Electoral Officer, and the Election Commission regarding the incident. He has requested that appropriate measures be taken against the accused official.
The Congress party's allegations highlight concerns about electoral fairness and impartiality. They stress the need for accountability within constitutional bodies like the ECI to ensure democratic processes are upheld without bias or interference.
