Congress MP who wanted probe against Vadra quits party

Haryana, Sept 23: Congress MP Rao Inderjit Singh, who was recently in the limelight for demanding a probe into land deals of Sonia Gandhi's son-in-law Robert Vadra, today said he was bidding goodbye to "Congress politics".

Addressing a rally here, about 85 kms from Delhi, the member of Lok Sabha from Gurgaon said he would not contest the next elections from Congress as he was upset with the "existing circumstances" in the party.

"I have been in the Congress for 35 years, but under the existing circumstances, I won’t contest elections from the Congress party…..and I also bid bye to Congress politics," the 63-year-old leader said.

Singh, the bete noire of Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, has been sulking for quite some time especially after he was removed from the Union Council of Ministers about two years back. He was in the limelight last month when he demanded a fair probe into the land deals of Vadra in his affluent constituency on the outskirts of Delhi and punishment if he was guilty.

"I feel the administration has not functioned the way it ought to have.... I'm not in the business of prosecuting Robert Vadra.... if anybody has made money illegally, they should all be held accountable and if that includes Robert Vadra, he should be held accountable as well," he had said.

Son of late Union Minister Rao Birendra Singh, he is third-term MP. He had been a four-time legislator in Haryana since 1977 and had also been a state minister.
