Maharashtra Youth Congress Accused of Sharing Deep Fake Video of Amit Shah

A recent complaint has spotlighted the circulation of a deep fake video involving Union Home Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Amit Shah, stirring significant controversy. The video, which falsely depicted Shah announcing the reduction of reservation rights for SCs, STs, and OBCs, led to a police complaint filed by Mumbai BJP functionary Pratik Karpe at the Bandra Kurla Complex Cyber Police Station. The original speech from which this video was manipulated actually conveyed Shah's commitment to ending unconstitutional Muslim reservation in Telangana, redirecting these rights to SCs, STs, and OBCs instead.

Parallelly, the Special Cell of Delhi Police lodged an FIR following a complaint by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). The FIR was registered under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Information Technology Act, highlighting the serious nature of the offense. These sections include causing provocation with intent to cause riot, promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., forgery, forgery to harm the reputation of any party, and publishing false statements with intent to affect election results.
