Communal violence Bill may be out soon after 8 years

Parliament
New Delhi, Dec 3: After hanging fire for 8 long years, the amended version of the communal violence Bill is set to be introduced in the upcoming winter session of the Parliament.

However, there is some time yet to take the final decision on the Prevention of Communal and Targeted Violence Bill. Sources say that preparations are underway to move ahead with the plan.

The draft is likely to comprise provisions of the 'Prevention of Communal and Targeted violence (Access to Justice and Reparations) Bll, 2011', which was prepared by the National Advisory Council (NAC), headed by Sonia Gandhi. It is likely to impose duties on central and state governments to exercise power in an impartial manner to prevent and control targeted violence.

The Bill also proposes the constitution of an National Authority for Communal Harmony, Justice and Reparation, which would be set up by the Centre.
