Communal Bill is ill-conceived: Modi writes to PM

New Delhi, Dec 5:As the

government is set to present the Contentious Communal Violence Bill in Lok Sabha winter session which is beginning today, BJP's prime ministerial candidate and

chief minister

has wrote to prime minister Manmohan Singh his conveying his opposition to the bill.

Through the letter, Modi urged PM to seek wider consultation with the states and various stakeholders of the Bill before proceeding any further. (More details of the letter)

Modi's letter says the communal violence bill is ill conceived, poorly drafted and recipe for disaster. "The timing of the bill is suspicuious. Political considerations and vote bank politics rather than genuine concerns are guiding it, " he said.

Modi said the bill is clear violation of India's federal structure. "Centre is busy forming law on matters that are in state list", said Modi.

"If a legislation has to be implemented by the States, should it not be legislated by the States? If implemented, Communal Violence Bill would fragment society & increase violence. It will have results opposite of the stated objective", he said.
