Cold wave: Army provides help to people in far-flung areas
Jammu, Jan 2: Army has come forward for the help of residents of far-flung villages in Chungra and Mamankot areas of Reasi district, who were facing hardship due to prevailing severe cold conditions in Jammu and Kashmir.
"The cold wave has caused distress to the locals especially the Gujjars and Bakkarwals of Chungra and Mamankot areas along the higher reaches of Pir Panjal ranges," Jammu-based Defense spokesman Lt Col Manish Mehta said.

He said that the villagers had approached the Rashtriya Rifles battalion, based at Samote, under Uniform Force for assistance. "Acceding to their request, the army distributed blankets, utensils, plastic sheets, CGI sheets and other such items to help them face the harsh winter," Mehta said.
Roshan Din Wani, sarpanch of Mamankot village, said, "We are indebted to the efforts of the army which came forward for our help and provided us relief when we needed it the most."
