Coldplay’s Chris Martin And GF Dakota Johnson's Sacred Visit to Maha Kumbh Before Shahi Snan
On a recent trip to India, Coldplay's lead singer Chris Martin, along with his girlfriend, actor Dakota Johnson, made a significant stop at the Maha Kumbh Mela in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj. The event, which began on January 13, 2025, and will run until February 26, attracts millions seeking spiritual cleansing at the Triveni Sangam—the sacred confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers. This visit followed their performance in Ahmedabad, illustrating the couple's interest in exploring India's rich cultural and spiritual heritage.
Following an electrifying concert in Ahmedabad on January 26, the pair were seen arriving at the Maha Kumbh Mela.

Captured in a video shared by ANI, they were surrounded by excited fans, with Martin engaging enthusiastically, even playfully sticking his tongue out for the cameras. This display of joy and interaction with the crowd highlighted the vibrant atmosphere of the festival and their enjoyment of the experience.
During their stay, Martin and Johnson didn't just attend religious gatherings; they also immersed themselves in local traditions and customs. Their visit to the historic Shri Babulnath Temple in Mumbai was well-documented across social media platforms, showcasing their engagement with India's spiritual side. Additionally, Johnson's visit to the Siddhivinayak Temple, accompanied by Sonali Bendre and Gayatri Joshi, further emphasized their deep dive into the country's religious practices.
Coldplay's visit to India was part of their Music of the Spheres World Tour, which included five performances across the country. The band's shows, especially the back-to-back performances at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, marked a significant milestone. With an attendance of 1.34 lakh people, as stated in a tweet by the band, it became the first ticketed concert in India to attract such a massive crowd. This surpassed previous records held by artists like Diljit Dosanjh and Justin Bieber, who had drawn 50,000 attendees at their largest ticketed shows in the country.
The Maha Kumbh Mela, a significant event in the Hindu calendar, draws devotees from all over the world. Its importance is highlighted by the belief in achieving 'Moksha' or liberation by taking a dip in the holy waters at the confluence of the three sacred rivers. The presence of international celebrities like Chris Martin and Dakota Johnson underscores the global appeal and cultural significance of this age-old religious festival.
