The incident took place in the early hours of Saturday in Mathura, where Gau Rakshak saint Chandrashekhar, popularly known as "Farsa Wale Baba", was allegedly run over by a truck. His death triggered tension in the area, with angry locals blocking the Delhi-Agra Highway in protest.
Police teams rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the crowd, but the situation escalated as protesters turned aggressive. Stone-pelting was reported during the protest, further worsening the law-and-order situation.
To bring the crowd under control, police had to use tear gas shells and fire rubber bullets. During the unrest, several vehicles, including those linked to the administration such as the ADM Administration's vehicle, were vandalised. According to Additional Superintendent of Police Shlok Kumar, the incident occurred between 3 am and 4 am in the Kosi police station area. Chandrashekhar had reportedly tried to stop a vehicle he found suspicious.
During this time, due to dense fog, a truck bearing a Rajasthan registration number coming from behind hit him, leading to his death. During the initial police investigation, it was found that the container vehicle he had attempted to stop was carrying grocery items, while the truck behind it was loaded with wire.
Police said the truck driver and helper are residents of Alwar, Rajasthan.
Police Probe Underway, Locals Raise Suspicion
Police have clarified that the incident has no connection with cattle smuggling and are treating it as a road accident. However, some local residents have claimed that "Baba" was chasing alleged cattle smugglers at the time of the incident.
The death led to a major traffic jam on the highway, and tension remained high in the area for several hours. Police said the matter is under investigation and further action will be taken based on the findings.
