Cloudflare Outage Ripples Across Industries; Finance, AI, and E‑Commerce Affected

Cloudflare, one of the world's largest web infrastructure providers, experienced a major outage that disrupted several online services across multiple regions. The incident affected news websites, including Oneindia, trading platforms such as Zerodha, Angel One, and Groww, leaving users unable to log in, place orders, or access market data during crucial trading hours.

APIs and backend systems dependent on Cloudflare's network struggled to connect, leading to widespread delays and frustration among investors.

A wide range of websites, fintech platforms, and enterprise tools relying on Cloudflare's infrastructure also went offline or suffered degraded performance. AI chatbot services like Claude and Perplexity, travel portals such as MakeMyTrip, and productivity platforms including Canva and Notion were among those impacted.

Social media networks like X (formerly Twitter), LinkedIn, and Discord reported failures in loading feeds or connecting to servers, while entertainment platforms such as Spotify and Letterboxd faced access errors. Even e-commerce platforms like Shopify saw disruptions in store backends, affecting online retail operations.

Trading activity in India was briefly interrupted, sparking complaints on social media as users struggled to execute transactions. Services began to stabilise gradually as Cloudflare rolled out fixes, but many platforms continued to monitor their systems for residual issues.
This marks the second major Cloudflare outage in recent months.

Just weeks earlier, a technical fault at the company had temporarily taken down large portions of the internet, affecting services as diverse as X, ChatGPT, Letterboxd, and even Downdetector, which ironically tracks outages but itself runs on Cloudflare. The recurrence highlights the risks of heavy reliance on a single infrastructure provider. Some platforms, such as ChatGPT, appeared unaffected this time, suggesting they may have reduced their dependence on Cloudflare after the previous incident.

During the outage, many users encountered "500 internal server error" messages instead of expected content, underscoring the scale of disruption. The problems emerged barely two-and-a-half weeks after Cloudflare's last major downtime, raising concerns about the resilience of global internet infrastructure.
