Cloudburst In Uttarakhand Today: Here Are The Helpline Numbers

A flash flood triggered by a cloudburst in Uttarkashi's Dharali village has resulted in at least four fatalities and many missing. Ongoing rescue efforts are hampered by heavy rainfall as authorities work to locate trapped villagers and provide aid.

The devastating flash flood wreaked havoc in Dharali village and at least four people have been killed in the incident, according to a report in NDTV. At least 50 people are missing.

According to the reports, the NDRF, SDRF and ITBP teams have been deployed for rescue operations.

The floodwaters carried heavy silt, sweeping away homes and submerging structures. Many villagers are feared trapped as the disaster unfolded. Uttarkashi District Magistrate Prashant Arya confirmed that a cloudburst led to this catastrophe.

Rescue Efforts Underway

Rescue operations are ongoing despite continuous rainfall and dangerously high water levels in the Khir Ganga river.

Speaking to CNN-News18, an eyewitness Suresh Semwal said, "Situation is very bad here, many hotels washed away in this flood – around 50 hotels in this area totally submerged, many villagers trapped. Rain is still continuing. The water level has increased in the river. Local people have climbed to the nearby mountains to save themselves."

Government Response

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed deep concern over the tragedy and assured that relief and rescue operations are being conducted on a war footing. "The news of heavy damage caused by the cloudburst in the Dharali (Uttarkashi) region is extremely saddening and painful," he stated.

Dhami added that he is maintaining constant communication with senior officials and closely monitoring the situation. He also prayed for everyone's safety amidst this crisis.

On the other hand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences to the people affected by the tragedy in Dharali, Uttarkashi.

"I pray for the well-being of all the victims. I have spoken to Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami ji and obtained information about the situation. Under the supervision of the state government, relief and rescue teams are engaged in every possible effort. No stone is being left unturned in providing assistance to the people, " the PM said in a post on X.
