Facebook post against Azam Khan lands a class XI student in jail

Lucknow, March 18: A class XII student from Bareilly was arrested and sent to jail for allegedly posting objectionable comments on Facebook against Samajwadi Party leader and Uttar Pradesh Urban Development Minister Azam Khan. [When UP cops went after Azam Khan's buffaloes]

According to media reports, the boy has been booked under Section 66-A of the Information Technology Act and sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, etc.), 505 (public mischief), and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of the IPC.

The Rampur police arrested the boy on Monday evening from his residence. On Tuesday, he was produced before the magistrate from where he was sent to judicial custody for 14 days.

"This boy has posted an inflammatory post in the name of Khan which is not true. It not only hurt the feelings of both Hindu and Muslim community but also maligns Khan's image,"Azam Khan's aide was quoted as saying in media reports.

Meanwhile, the student pleaded innocence in the case. During the police interrogation, the boy said that he did not understand the real meaning of content which he had posted on Facebook.
