A Hindustan Times report quoted assistant police inspector from Kinvali police station, Arun Phegade, as saying that the men threatened to kill the victim's parents and asked her to come to a nearby forest. The accused approached the girl when she was playing outside her home and lied that they know a secret about her.

"Worried about the men revealing her secret or harming her or her parents, the girl went to meet the men the next afternoon. They took turns and raped her, shot the video of the crime, and circulated it on WhatsApp and social media," Phegade was quoted as saying.

The incident took place in November last year, but a complaint was filed by the victim on February 9, police said. Based on the complaint, the accused -- Dhanji Patil, (23), Bharat Valimbe (24) and Nitin Patil (22) -- were arrested on February 10, a PTI report said.

The trio has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and sent to police custody till February 15.
