Clash Between Kanwariyas and Locals During Friday Prayers in Prayagraj, 3 Detained

A tense situation unfolded in the Sarai Khwaja area of Mauaima on Friday after a clash erupted between Kanwariyas, participants of the Kanwar Yatra, and members of the Muslim community during Friday prayers.

The conflict reportedly began when a Kanwar Yatra procession passed through the area playing loud DJ music while prayers were underway at a nearby mosque. Members of the Muslim community objected to the loud music, leading to a heated exchange that quickly turned physical.

Kanwariyas alleged they were forced to shut off the DJ system and were manhandled. Police were alerted and promptly arrived at the scene, managing to de-escalate the situation and ensure the yatra continued without further disruption.

In response to the incident, authorities have detained three individuals from the Muslim community. Police have also registered an FIR against 65 people, including 15 named individuals, for their involvement in the altercation.

"We acted swiftly to bring the situation under control. Legal action has been initiated and we are committed to maintaining peace," said a senior police officer.

Additional police forces have been deployed in the area to prevent any further unrest. The local administration has appealed for calm and urged both communities to respect each other's religious sentiments.

The clash occurred during the month of Shravan, when Kanwar Yatras are in full swing and often coincide with Friday prayers, occasionally leading to tension in sensitive areas.
