Chirag Paswan, BJP Seal Seat-Sharing Pact for Bihar Lok Sabha Polls

Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) president Chirag Paswan and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have finalized a seat-sharing arrangement for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Bihar. Paswan expressed contentment with the BJPs offer following a meeting with party president J.P. Nadda.

Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) Ram Vilas president Chirag Paswan announced on Wednesday that his party has finalized a seat-sharing formula with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Bihar. Paswan expressed satisfaction with the offer presented by the BJP, marking a significant shift from his recent assertive stance during protracted alliance negotiations.

Chirag Paswan and BJP: A New Alliance for Bihar Lok Sabha Polls

Addressing Concerns and Praising BJP Leadership

Following a meeting with BJP president J P Nadda, Paswan heaped praise on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other leaders of the ruling party. He acknowledged that all his concerns had been addressed, leading to a positive resolution in the seat-sharing discussions.

Potential Seat Distribution in Bihar

Sources indicate that Paswan's party may contest in five out of the 40 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar. Notably, the Hajipur seat, currently held by his estranged uncle and Union Minister Pashupati Kumar Paras, who leads another faction of the LJP, might be allocated to Paswan. Paswan considers Hajipur as part of his rightful share due to his father Ram Vilas Paswan's long association with the constituency.

Confident of NDA Victory in Bihar

Expressing confidence in the National Democratic Alliance's (NDA) prospects, Paswan asserted that the alliance will secure all 40 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar. He downplayed his differences with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, emphasizing the collective effort of all NDA constituents to achieve the target of crossing 400 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Fate of Paras-led Faction Uncertain

When asked about the future of the faction headed by Paras, Paswan dismissed it as a matter of no concern to him. This suggests that the claims of the Paras-led National Lok Janshakti Party may have been disregarded by the BJP. Paras, who serves as a Cabinet Minister in the Union government, may be accommodated in another capacity to avoid potential conflict within the ruling alliance.

Exploring Options and Weighing Decisions

Amidst the ongoing claims and counterclaims between the two LJP factions and the BJP's unsuccessful attempts at reconciliation following Ram Vilas Paswan's demise in 2020, Paras, along with four other MPs, had separated from Chirag Paswan due to differences. However, Chirag Paswan managed to rally his party's core supporters, demonstrating his political inheritance and leadership capabilities to the BJP. Recently, one of the MPs from the Paras faction joined Chirag Paswan's group.

BJP and JDU's Seat Distribution

Although the BJP and the Janata Dal United (JDU), the second largest party in the NDA in Bihar, have not made any official statements, sources suggest that they may contest approximately 17 and 16 Lok Sabha seats, respectively. Two other smaller allies may be allotted one seat each.

The finalization of the seat-sharing agreement between the LJP and the BJP marks a significant development in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections in Bihar. With Chirag Paswan expressing satisfaction and confidence in the NDA's prospects, the alliance aims to achieve a resounding victory in the state.
