Child, maternal deaths alarming: Narendra Modi

New Delhi, Aug 30: Child and maternal deaths in the country are alarming and scary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday.

Every year some 50,000 women and 13 lakhs infants die during childbirth, Modi said in his Mann Ki Baat radio address.

The 'Call to Action Summit 2015', a global meet to end preventable child and maternal deaths, was hosted for the first time in India, Modi said. He said there was a need to end these deaths.
