Tragic Drowning of Young Girl in Delhi's Open Drain Sparks Outrage

A tragic incident occurred in outer north Delhi's Alipur area, where a 5-year-old girl drowned in an open drain while playing with her siblings, according to police reports on Monday. The incident has led to the booking of civic authority officials.

Young Girl Drowns in Delhi Drain

The unfortunate event took place on Saturday around 4 pm in the Akbarpur Majra area. The girl was visiting her father, who was working in a nearby agricultural field. While playing, she accidentally slipped into the open drain and drowned, police confirmed.

Investigation and Legal Action

During the investigation, it was revealed that the drain had been left uncovered, leading to the girl's fall. A police officer stated that a case has been registered under section 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for causing death by negligence against unknown officials of the Public Works Department.

Political Reactions

Reacting to the incident, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) expressed their condolences. In a statement, they said, "Our hearts go out to the grieving family, and we stand in solidarity with them. However, for anyone found guilty in this matter, strict action must be taken against them."

The AAP also mentioned previous incidents involving the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC). "We also hope that the police have filed a case against the NDMC concerning the two deaths that occurred during the last rain," they added.

The incident highlights ongoing issues with civic infrastructure and safety measures in the area. The authorities are expected to take stringent actions to prevent such tragedies in the future.
