Chhattisgarh Ministers Accuse Congress of Fueling Balodabazar Violence

In a recent turn of events in Chhattisgarh's Balodabazar city, a protest called by the Satnami community escalated into a violent clash, resulting in the arson of a key government building and numerous vehicles. The incident, which occurred just a day prior, saw two state ministers from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) accusing Congress leaders of inciting the mob. Food Minister Dayaldas Baghel and Revenue Minister Tank Ram Verma, in a press conference, alleged that the demonstration was attended by Congress leaders, including former minister Guru Rudra Kumar and MLAs Devendra Yadav and Kavita Pranlahre, who they claim played a role in the ensuing chaos.

Congress Blamed for Balodabazar Unrest

The ministers described the protest as a premeditated act of violence aimed at tarnishing the reputation of the Satnami community. According to Minister Baghel, approximately 150 two-wheelers and four-wheelers were set ablaze by anti-social elements during the protest. The violence also led to the injury of around 40 police personnel and attacks on media persons. Furthermore, Baghel highlighted that common citizens were targeted, with reports of looting amounting to lakhs of rupees.

The opposition Congress party has refuted these allegations, pointing fingers at the BJP's governance for failing to maintain law and order. Sushil Anand Shukla, head of the state Congress communication wing, questioned the government's inaction despite prior knowledge of the community's grievances and planned gathering. The desecration of a sacred symbol worshipped by the Satnami community last month had already sparked outrage, leading to demands for an inquiry and action against those responsible.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai's engagement with the Satnami community representatives was also highlighted. During their meeting, CM Sai reiterated the teachings of Baba Guru Ghasidas—peace and harmony—urging community leaders to guide their followers towards maintaining societal peace. The community leaders expressed their distress over the violence and clarified that those involved in the vandalism were not representative of their gathering.

Amidst these developments, Balodabazar-Bhatapara Superintendent of Police Sadanand Kumar announced that seven FIRs had been registered in relation to Monday's arson. Efforts to apprehend those responsible are ongoing, with 12 police teams actively working on the case. More than 200 individuals have been arrested so far in connection with the violence.

This incident has not only highlighted the tensions within Chhattisgarh but also raised questions about political accountability and communal harmony. As investigations continue, both political parties are under scrutiny for their roles in either escalating or failing to prevent this outbreak of violence. With community leaders calling for peace and reconciliation, there is hope that such incidents can be avoided in the future through dialogue and mutual respect.
