Chhattisgarh: Two Dead, Seven Injured As SUV En Route To PM Modi’s Event Plunges Into River

Two individuals lost their lives and seven others sustained injuries when an SUV transporting passengers to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's event in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, veered off a bridge and fell into a river in the Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi district on Sunday, according to news agency PTI.

Police reported that the accident took place at approximately 9 a.m. near Kotmi village. The vehicle, which was travelling from the Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur (MCB) district, lost control on the bridge.

It struck a female pedestrian before plunging into the river below. Both the pedestrian and the driver were pronounced dead at the scene.

The deceased have been identified as Ramita Bai from Pandrikhar village and the driver, Babu Lal Chaudhary. The seven injured passengers were rushed to the district hospital in Gaurela, where five are said to be in a critical condition.

The tragic incident occurred just ahead of Prime Minister Modi's scheduled visit to Mohbhattha village in Bilaspur, where he was due to inaugurate and dedicate various development projects worth over ₹33,700 crore and lay foundation stones for several new schemes.
