Chhattisgarh: Senior cop suspended, shoots wife, children, self

Chhattisgarh
Jagdalpur, Feb 25: A suspended top cop in Chhattisgarh shot his wife, children, before training guns on himself for reasons unknown. While the wife died, his son and daughter were left critically injured and have been taken to a hospital in Raipur.

Superintendent of Police Devnarayan Patel was suspended for beating up a district judge for drunken driving. On Sunday, the officer saw the judge's car blocking traffic and confronted him. When judge Toppo abused him, the police officer slapped him, not knowing his profession.

Under pressure, the department had to suspend him on Monday evening. Upset, the officer used his service revolver to shoot his family before committing suicide. He had been reportedly transferred to the post just six months ago.

Although no suicide note was found, police suspect that the suspension may have been the reason for the deaths. However, investigations are on.

Patel had received the President's award last year for successful anti-Maoist operations.
