Chhattisgarh Rolls Out Mahtari Vandan Yojana: Empowering Married Women with Financial Support

In a significant move aimed at empowering women and improving their socio-economic status, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Chhattisgarh has announced the launch of the Mahtari Vandan Yojana. This welfare scheme will provide married women with a monthly financial assistance of Rs 1,000, marking a fulfillment of one of the key promises made by the party during the last assembly elections.

Key Features of the Mahtari Vandan Yojana
The Mahtari Vandan Yojana is designed to provide financial support and recognition to married women in Chhattisgarh. Here are the key features of the scheme:
- Monthly Financial Assistance: Under the scheme, married women who are domiciled in Chhattisgarh and aged above 21 years as of January 1, 2024, will receive a monthly financial assistance of Rs 1,000.
- Direct Benefit Transfer: The financial assistance will be directly credited into the bank accounts of eligible women through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to ensure transparency and efficiency.
- Eligibility Criteria: In addition to married women, widows, divorced, and abandoned women who meet the age and domicile criteria are also eligible to avail the benefits of the scheme.
- Objectives: The Mahtari Vandan Yojana aims to eliminate discrimination against women, improve their health and nutrition levels, promote women empowerment, and enhance their economic self-reliance.
Increased Remuneration for Tendu Leaf Collectors
In another significant decision, the Chhattisgarh cabinet has approved an increase in the remuneration given to tendu leaf collectors. The remuneration has been hiked from Rs 4,000 per standard sack to Rs 5,500 per standard sack, providing much-needed financial relief to these hardworking individuals.
New Social Security Scheme for Tendu Leaf Collectors
Recognizing the importance of social security for tendu leaf collectors, the state government has also decided to introduce a new social security scheme specifically designed for them. Details about the scheme will be announced in due course.
Implementation of Bharat BH Series Vehicle Registration
The Chhattisgarh government has further announced the implementation of the Bharat BH series vehicle registration in the state. Under this scheme, owners of two and four-wheelers will have the option to pay tax for two years at one go, simplifying the vehicle registration process and providing convenience to vehicle owners.
