Chhattisgarh Encounter: 12 Naxalites Killed By Security Forces In Bijapur
A significant clash erupted between security forces and Naxalites in the dense forests of Bijapur, Chhattisgarh, signaling the start of an extensive anti-Naxalite operation. This operation saw a coordinated effort involving personnel from the District Reserve Guard (DRG) across three districts, alongside five battalions of the elite Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) and the 229th battalion of the CRPF. This strategic deployment underscores the intensity and scale of the efforts to counter Naxalite activities in the region.

The confrontation led to the elimination of 12 Naxalites, marking a substantial impact in the ongoing efforts to curb Naxalism within the state. This incident brings the total number of Naxalites neutralized in Chhattisgarh to 26 for the month, highlighting a significant escalation in anti-Naxal operations. The operation persisted through the day, with exchanges of fire continuing intermittently until the late evening, showcasing the persistency and resilience of the security forces in their pursuit.
A PTI report quoted an official stating, "As per preliminary information, 12 Naxalites were killed in the gunfight. Further details were awaited as a search operation was still underway in the area." Importantly, there were no casualties reported among the security forces, which signifies the meticulous planning and execution of the operation.
The successful operation on Thursday is part of a broader strategy to combat Naxalism in the region. Earlier this month, on January 12, three suspected Maoists were neutralized in an encounter within the National Park area of Bastar's Bijapur district. Subsequent to this encounter, security forces recovered the bodies of three uniformed Maoists, attesting to the operation's success. This operation, initiated on January 11, was based on intelligence regarding Maoist activity within the dense forests, indicating a proactive approach in intelligence gathering and operational execution.
Furthermore, on January 9, another operation in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district resulted in the death of three Naxalites. This operation took place in a forested area along the border of Sukma and Bijapur, highlighting the geographical challenges and the extent of Naxalite influence in these regions. Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma confirmed the success of these operations, commending the bravery and effectiveness of the security forces involved.
