Chhattisgarh Election 2023: BJP Announces 21 Candidates, Sets Up Uncle-Nephew Clash In Patan
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday released its first list of 21 candidates for the upcoming Chhattisgarh Assembly elections 2023. The BJP had won only 15 of the 90 seats in the 2018 assembly elections, but is hoping to make a comeback this time.

The list includes several experienced leaders, such as Lok Sabha MP Vijay Baghel, who has been fielded from Patan. Other prominent names include Bhulan Singh Maravi (Premnagar), Laxmi Rajwade (Bhatgaon), Shakuntala Singh Porthe (Pratappur), Sarla Kosaria (Saraipali), Alka Chandrakar (Khallari), Gita Ghasi Sahu (Khujji) and Maniram Kashyap (Bastar).
The names were decided at the BJP's Central Election Committee meeting on Wednesday, which was chaired by party chief J P Nadda and attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as well as Union ministers Rajnath Singh and Amit Shah.
The BJP is facing an uphill battle in Chhattisgarh, but the release of this list is a sign that the party is taking the elections seriously. The party will be hoping to capitalize on the recent unpopularity of the Congress government in the state.
