Chhattisgarh Assembly Polls: Over 6,400 People To Vote From Home

The Election Commission (EC) on Thursday announced that over 6,400 has opted to avail vote-from-home facility in the upcoming Chhattisgarh Assembly elections.

It was introduced by the EC for people above 80 years of age and persons with more than 40 per cent disability.

On Thursday, election officials said that 6,447 voters have opted to use this provision. It also stated that a total of 2,03,93,160 voters, comprising 1,01,35,561 males, 1,02,56,846 females, and 753 individuals identifying as transgender, will have the opportunity to cast their votes.

Of the total voters, 2,457 individuals are aged over 100 years and have been participants in the democratic process (elections) since its inception. Additionally, 7,29,267 voters fall within the age bracket of 18-19 and will be exercising their voting rights for the first time.

"The Election Commission has introduced the facility of voting through postal ballot at home to voters above 80 years of age or with more than 40 per cent disability. A total of 6,447 such voters have decided to avail this facility," it said.

Within the 90 assembly constituencies, the Raipur City North seat holds the highest count of third-gender voters, totalling 96. Across the four constituencies in the capital city of Raipur, there are 275 transgender voters. The statement further mentioned that among the entire voter count, there are 19,907 service voters, while the number of overseas Indian voters stands at 17.

The elections for the 90-member Chhattisgarh assembly will be held in two phases on November 7 and 17.
