Chennai's residents were left in the dark on Thursday night as several parts of the city experienced a sudden blackout. The Chennai power cuts were reported from Manali to the Mint area, with the outage caused by a fire at the 400 kV Manali Sub Station Manali substation.
The Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) has confirmed that efforts are underway to restore power as quickly as possible. According to TANGEDCO, a fire accident at the Manali substation in North Chennai has disrupted power to most parts of the city.

The power disruption has caused inconvenience to residents, with many taking to social media to express their frustration. A software engineer tweeted on X asking for updates on the cause of the fire and the estimated time for restoration of electricity. Another resident complained that the streetlights along Anna Salai road were not functioning.
However, TANGEDCO has promised to restore power within 30 minutes through a bypass line. The corporation's MD, Rajesh Lakshmi, tweeted that efforts are being made to restore power as quickly as possible.
