Chennai: 13-year-old boy stabbed to death in classroom

Virudhanagar, Nov 28: A 13-year-old boy was stabbed to death in his classroom at a Tamil Nadu government school on Friday morning.

The Class 8 boy was stabbed in the forehead by the attacker at about 9 am, just before classes began, a youngster as his classmates watched in horror, said a NDTV report. The school is in Pandhalkudi of Virudhnagar district in Tamil Nadu.

The school was closed immediately after the incident. Local residents blocked road traffic in protest.

According to the police, the attacker is from the same village as the student. The attacker entered the school and stabbed the boy with a sharp-edged weapon.

The boy was immediately taken to a hospital, but he died on the way, the police said.

The attacker is also reportedly a minor. According to the police, he is absconding.

"They appear to have had a dispute in the village. We are investigating," said a senior police officer.
