ISRO has extended an invitation to schools and other educational establishments to facilitate the live streaming of the Chandrayaan-3 landing. The space agency has encouraged these institutions to promote the event within their student and faculty communities, as well as coordinate the arrangements for the live broadcast.
Earlier in the day, ISRO released images of the Moon captured by the Lander Position Detection Camera (LPDC) of the Chandrayaan-3 mission from an altitude of about 70 km on August 19.
LPDC images assist the Lander Module (LM) of the mission, scheduled to make a soft-landing on the Lunar surface on Wednesday, in determining its position (latitude and longitude) by matching them against an onboard moon reference map, the Bengaluru-headquartered national space agency said.
On August 21, 2023, the Lander Module of Chandrayaan-3 successfully established a two-way communication link with Chandrayaan-2's orbiter. Chandrayaan-2, the second phase of the lunar mission initiated in 2019, had aimed to softly land on the Moon's southern pole. However, it encountered challenges and couldn't achieve a successful touchdown, with communication being lost around 2.1 km above the lunar surface.
In light of recent developments, a senior scientist from ISRO was quoted by news agency ANI on Monday, revealing, "If unfavorable conditions emerge, the landing of the module on the Moon will be rescheduled to August 27."
