TDP Chief Chandrababu Naidu Arrested and Sent to Jail in Corruption Case
Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief Chandrababu Naidu was arrested and sent to Central Prison in Rajamahendravaram after being charged with a multi-crore corruption case. The court allowed home-cooked food, medication and special accommodation due to his Z-plus security status.
In the early hours of Monday, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N Chandrababu Naidu was taken to Central Prison in Rajamahendravaram, AP, following his arrest in a multi-crore corruption case. The former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh was sent to judicial custody for 14 days by a court in Vijayawada.
Arrest and Detainment

Naidu reached the prison after a nearly 200-km journey from Vijayawada to Rajamahendravaram in East Godavari district. According to East Godavari district Superintendent of Police P Jagadish, he entered the prison around 1:20 am. Following his detainment, home-cooked food, medication and special room were among the amenities granted by the court during his judicial custody.
The 73-year-old politician has been provided with separate accommodation inside the jail due to an alleged threat to his life as he is a Z-plus category security protectee. His son and TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh accompanied him up until the prison gates before departing.
The Corruption Case
Naidu's arrest came on Saturday following a pre-dawn operation at Nandyala as part of an investigation into what is commonly referred to as Skill Development Corporation scam case. This case involves allegations of corruption running into crores.
According to details from the detention order issued by the judge presiding over this matter, there are grounds that substantiate belief in accusations levelled against Naidu. It was also noted that due process required more than just 24 hours for completion of investigations into such serious charges involving high-profile political figures like Naidu.
Implications for TDP Leadership
This development comes as a significant blow to the TDP leadership, particularly since Naidu is a central figure in the party. His absence from active politics for two weeks could potentially impact the party's operations and strategies. It remains to be seen how this situation will unfold over the coming days and what it might mean for future of TDP.
In conclusion, N Chandrababu Naidu’s arrest marks another chapter in India's ongoing struggle with political corruption. As one of Andhra Pradesh's most prominent politicians, his case serves as a stark reminder of the need for transparency and accountability in public office. While his supporters stand by him during these trying times, critics argue that this instance underscores a broader systemic issue within Indian politics.
