Chandigarh woman raped in Goa after marriage promise
Panaji, Sep 13: One man and his mother were arrested after a Chandigarh-based woman complained to police that she was induced via a matrimonial site to travel to Goa where she was raped and her gold ornaments stolen, police said on Sunday.
A police spokesperson said Valentino Fernandes and his mother Leocidia of Sancoale village, 25 km from Panaji, befriended the 28-year-old woman from Chandigarh on a matrimonial site.

"According to the complaint filed at the Verna police station, the victim said the prospective groom had sex with her in August and September at his residence on the promise of marriage. His mother was accused of stealing the woman's gold jewellery worth Rs.2 lakh," the police official said.
A First Information Report was filed under Sections 420 (cheating), 376 (rape), 406 (breach of trust) and 506 (criminal intimidation), the official said.
