Chandigarh Municipal Body Scuffle: Congress, AAP, And BJP Councillors Clash Over Amit Shah's Remarks
A heated altercation broke out during a Chandigarh Municipal Corporation meeting on Tuesday, as Congress and BJP councillors clashed physically. The scuffle was triggered by a motion passed by Congress and AAP councillors, who are allies at the national level, calling for Home Minister Amit Shah's resignation. This motion stemmed from Shah's controversial remarks about Dr. BR Ambedkar during a recent Rajya Sabha debate on the Constitution.
A video of the incident has gone viral, showing councillors engaged in a physical fight, with CCTV footage capturing the confrontation. The altercation has stirred political tensions in the region, drawing attention on social media.

Chandigarh Municipal Body Scuffle Broke - Here's Why
A major scuffle broke out at a Chandigarh Municipal Corporation meeting on December 24, 2024, between Congress and BJP councillors following a motion demanding the resignation of Home Minister Amit Shah. The motion was introduced by Congress and AAP councillors, who are allies at the national level, in response to controversial remarks made by Shah about Dr B.R. Ambedkar during a debate on the Constitution in the Rajya Sabha the previous week. The dispute over Shah's comments led to heightened tensions, with both sides getting physically involved, despite the presence of CCTV cameras capturing the incident.
The remarks by Amit Shah, which opposition parties allege show disrespect towards Dr. Ambedkar, have sparked widespread protests. Shah, however, has denied these accusations. The controversy escalated last week when protests were held in Parliament by both the Treasury and Opposition benches. These protests became chaotic, leading to a scuffle in which two BJP MPs, Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput, were injured.
The Congress, led by figures like Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, has been vocal in demanding Shah's resignation over the issue, with Kharge alleging that BJP MPs physically pushed him while trying to enter Parliament. On the other hand, BJP MPs protested against Congress for "insulting" Dr. Ambedkar, intensifying the political face-off.
Meanwhile, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Mayawati weighed in on the situation, accusing both the BJP and Congress of engaging in politics by exploiting Dr. Ambedkar's legacy. She described the two parties as "two sides of the same coin" in their attempts to use Ambedkar's name for their political agendas.
This ongoing dispute reflects the deepening tensions surrounding Dr. Ambedkar's legacy and the political wrangling between major Indian political parties, with both sides fiercely defending their positions on the issue.
