Chandigarh, Sep 11: Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rally in Chandigarh has kept a few locals sulking on Friday, after a cremation ground was being turned into a makeshift parking lot.

People on Friday were not allowed to enter the crematorium, adjacent to the public park in Sector 25 where PM addressed a gathering, following security reasons and setting up of a makeshift parking.

Chandigarh: PM's rally irks a few locals

Cremation at this burial ground would be allowed after 1 pm, reports said. Earlier in the day, those arriving here for cremation were sent to another spot which irked the locals.

PM Modi arrived in Chandigarh on Friday to inaugurate the new international terminal of the Chandigarh airport and participate in other events.

The PM attended the convocation of the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), addressed the public rally and handed over keys of newly built flats for the economically weaker sections to the beneficiaries.

Tight security arrangements were made for the prime minister's visit.

The Chandigarh Traffic Police had ordered traffic diversion on major routes to be taken by Modi's motorcade during his visit. Even ambulances will have to take longer routes to reach hospitals, including PGIMER.

The Chandigarh administration on Thursday ordered closure of all government and private schools across the union territory on Friday in view of Modi's visit.
