Chandigarh Assembly Ramps Up Security After Parliament Breach

Chandigarh Assembly will reassess security arrangements before its Winter Session, prompted by the Parliament security breach incident in Delhi.

Chandigarh Assembly Bolsters Security: Lessons from Parliament Breach

In the aftermath of the recent security breach in Parliament, the Haryana Assembly is taking steps to enhance security measures ahead of its upcoming Winter Session, scheduled to commence on Friday in Chandigarh.

High-Level Security Meeting

Assembly Speaker Gian Chand Gupta convened a high-level security meeting on Tuesday, attended by senior officials, including the state's chief secretary, home secretary, police chief, additional director general of police, and senior police officers from Punjab and Chandigarh.

Parliament Security Breach Incident

The security review comes in light of the major security breach that occurred in Parliament on the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terror attack. During the incident, two individuals, Sagar Sharma and Manoranjan D, entered the Lok Sabha chamber from the public gallery, released yellow gas from canisters, and shouted slogans before being apprehended by MPs.

Concurrently, two other accused, Amol Shinde and Neelam Devi, sprayed colored gas from canisters and chanted slogans outside Parliament premises.

Review of Security Measures

Given the proximity of the visitors' gallery to the MLAs' seating area, Speaker Gupta emphasized the need to review security measures. He condemned the breach in Parliament, describing it as an unfortunate act within the "temple of democracy."

Additional Security Measures

The Speaker issued several instructions during the security meeting, including a prohibition on any form of protest outside the Assembly premises. Additionally, support staff accompanying MLAs will not be permitted to enter the Assembly premises.

The Haryana Assembly is committed to ensuring the safety and security of its members and visitors during the upcoming Winter Session. By implementing enhanced security measures, the Assembly aims to prevent any untoward incidents and maintain a conducive environment for legislative proceedings.
