Centre Clarifies CAA Concerns For Indian Muslims

The Central government sought to reassure Indian Muslims regarding the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), stating that it does not impact their citizenship.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Ministry of Home Affairs emphasized that all 18 crore Indian Muslims have equal rights like their Hindu counterparts and will not be required to produce any documents to prove their citizenship.

Centre Clarifies CAA Concerns For Indian Muslims

The government clarified that the CAA does not affect the citizenship of Indian Muslims or any other citizens. It explained that the Act aims to provide relief to persecuted minorities in some Muslim-majority countries and protect Islam from being associated with persecution.

Addressing concerns that the CAA targets Muslims, the government emphasized that the Act does not deal with the deportation of illegal immigrants and does not prevent any Muslim, persecuted in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, from applying for Indian citizenship under existing laws.

Union Minister Amit Shah also reiterated that the CAA is not intended to strip anyone of their citizenship. He refuted claims made by some politicians that minorities would lose citizenship due to the CAA, stating that there is no provision in the Act for such actions.
