Central Railway Starts 63-Hour Block For Platform Extension, Train Services Cancelled
The Central Railways network announced a 63-hour block to their services in a press conference, so they can perform platform extensions in their Mumbai Network. The block will commence today, Thursday, at midnight, and will last till 3:30 PM on Sunday, as reported by The Mint. This will result in many of the train services getting cancelled or becoming unavailable over the next few days.
As MumbaiNow reported, the block is happening to widen the platforms numbered 5 and 6 at the Thane station. Simultaneously, another 36-Hour block will start on Friday at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, to widen platforms numbered 10 and 11.

Swapnil Nila, CPRO of Central Railways, said 72 mail-express trains and around 956 suburban trains will be cancelled between the start of the block at Thursday midnight, and end of the block on Sunday afternoon, reported PTI. Nila further requested all Mumbai organisations to allow their employees to work from home or create other arrangements for them to reach their office.
Central Railways also reached out to the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport body, Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation, requesting them to run more buses and create more options for people to use as transport while the trains remain unavailable.
The Central Railway operates upwards of 1,800 trains which are used by more than 30 lakh commuters daily. The disruptions from this block may not just affect the trains in Mumbai but also the rest of the railway network in the vicinity. Thus, readers are advised to find other arrangements for travelling and reach work for the next three days.
