CEC Rajiv Kumar's Flight Makes Emergency Landing In Uttarakhand

The helicopter carrying Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and Additional Chief Election Officer of Uttarakhand Vijay Kumar Jogdand to Munsiyari has made an emergency landing in Pithoragarh district, the Uttarakhand Government said in a statement.

However, all the people on board the helicopter are safe.

The helicopter was flying over the mountainous region when worsening weather forced the pilot to make a precautionary landing. Authorities are currently assessing the situation, with further updates anticipated.

Local officials have been notified, and measures are being taken to ensure the safety of the CEC and accompanying personnel as weather conditions improve.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission (EC) on Tuesday announced the schedule for the Maharashtra and Jharkhand assembly polls. In addition to it, it has announced bypolls to three Lok Sabha and at least 47 assembly seats spread across several states.

The three vacant Lok Sabha seats are Wayanad in Kerala, Nanded in Maharashtra, and Basirhat in West Bengal.

The Wayanad seat was vacated by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who chose to retain the Rae Bareli seat after winning in both constituencies during the Lok Sabha elections.

Nanded became vacant following the passing of Congress MP Vasant Chavan, while Basirhat was left unrepresented after the recent death of TMC MP Haji Sheikh Nurul Islam.
