The incident comes about two weeks after a four-year-old boy died after being attacked by stray dogs in Gujarat's Surat. Earlier, in January, over 80 people were hospitalised in Bihar's Arrah after a stray dog went on a biting spree.
The recent incidents once again throws the spotlight on stray dogs, which have long been a subject of debate in India.
The reasons for the high number of stray dogs in India are complex and include factors such as rapid urbanization, poor waste management practices, and limited resources for animal control and sterilization programs. In some cases, dogs are abandoned by their owners or left to roam the streets when their owners move away.
Stray dog attacks can have serious consequences for victims, including physical injuries and the risk of contracting diseases such as rabies. The government has implemented various measures to address the issue, such as vaccination campaigns and sterilization programs to reduce the number of stray dogs. However, progress has been slow, and the problem persists in many parts of the country.
There are also concerns about the inhumane treatment of stray dogs by some individuals and the need for better education and awareness about responsible pet ownership and animal welfare in general. The issue of stray dog attacks in India remains a complex and challenging one, requiring a multi-faceted approach to address the root causes and protect both human and animal populations.
