CBSE To Conduct Class 10 Board Exams Twice A Year From 2026, Draft Approved

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is set to introduce two board examinations for Class 10 from the 2026 academic year.

According to news agency PTI, the board has approved draft guidelines for conducting Class 10 board exams twice a year starting in 2026.

These draft regulations will now be made available to the public, allowing stakeholders to provide feedback until 9 March, after which the final policy will be determined.

As per the official announcement, the biannual examinations will commence in 2026, with the first session scheduled from February 17 to March 6.

Key Features of the Proposed Scheme

1. Class 10 and Class 12 examinations will commence on the first Tuesday following 15 February.

2. In 2026, approximately 26.60 lakh students are expected to sit for the Class 10 exams, while around 20 lakh students will take the Class 12 exams.

3. Both examinations will cover the entire current syllabus and prescribed textbooks.

4. With the exception of Science, Mathematics, Social Science, Hindi, and English, the remaining subjects will be categorised as follows:

i) Regional and foreign languages in one group.
ii) All other subjects in another group.

5. Examinations for Science, Mathematics, Social Science, Hindi, and English will be held on designated days, as is currently the practice.

6. Examinations for regional and foreign languages will be conducted simultaneously on a single day.

7. Examinations for other subjects will be held two to three times, depending on student choices, over two or three days.
