CBI set to begin probe into Bikaner land scam involving Robert Vadra

On August 22, the Rajasthan government had written to the CBI to probe into the case after which Vadra called it an 'attempt of malicious prosecution'.

The Central Bureau of Investigation will reportedly take over the probe into the Bikaner land scam in which Congress president Sonia Gandhi's son-in-law Robert Vadra is alleged to be involved.

News agency ANI, while quoting sources, stated that the CBI is set to begin probe into companies involved in the scam.

On August 22, the Rajasthan government had written to the CBI to probe into the case after which Vadra called it an 'attempt of malicious prosecution'.

Vadra took to Facebook to vent his ire and wrote, "Another attempt of malicious prosecution exposed. First, Rajasthan police filed a FIR on 26 August 2014. In 3 years, they filed the chargesheets, summoned documents, as also company officials, yet found not an iota of evidence. Neither the FIR nor the chargesheets accuse the companies associated with me in any manner whatsoever."

The state government had on December 31, 2014, canceled 18 mutations (transfer of ownership) in Bikaner after allegedly finding them to be illegal. It was alleged that Vadra's company also purchased chunks of land. The land was illegally allotted or possessed in 2006-07 by some villagers, who were allegedly "wrongfully" shown as farmers, said a PTI report.

Vadra further wrote that the government "unleashed the Enforcement Directorate to harass and hound" him.

Fuming over the ordering of CBI probe into the Bikaner land scam, senior Congress leader and former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot had said there was no point in ordering a CBI probe when a clean-chit has been given to Robert Vadra in connection with the case.

According to reports, Vadra's firms were allegedly involved in the purchase and sale of 275 bighas of land in Rajasthan's Bikaner and there are four FIRs against them.
