CBI Cleared For Polygraph Tests In RG Kar Medical College Death Case
A court in Kolkata has permitted the CBI to perform a lie-detection test on former RG Kar Medical College principal Sandip Ghosh and others, linked to the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor.
Permission was granted by a city court on Thursday for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to conduct a polygraph test on the former principal and four doctors of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, who allegedly had dinner with the victim before she was found dead the following morning.
This is in connection with the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor earlier this month.

The CBI took over the investigation from Kolkata Police last week following a directive from the Calcutta High Court. The agency has interrogated Ghosh multiple times due to inconsistencies in his responses during questioning.
"We want to further verify Ghosh's answers, as there have been discrepancies in some of the replies to our questions. Therefore, we are mulling over the option to conduct a polygraph test on him," PTI quoted an unnamed official as saying.
CBI Seeks Polygraph Test
The case centres around the death of a postgraduate trainee doctor whose body was found in a seminar hall at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. The body bore severe injury marks, leading to widespread protests across the country, particularly within the medical community.
Ghosh has been questioned about his actions after learning of the doctor's death and why he allegedly made her parents wait nearly three hours before allowing them to see her body. Additionally, he has been asked about renovations that took place in rooms adjacent to where the body was discovered shortly after the incident.
Investigation Details
The CBI has already obtained court approval for a polygraph test on Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer arrested in connection with the case. The federal agency took over the probe into the trainee doctor's rape-murder from Kolkata Police upon directions from the Calcutta High Court.
Former RG Kar Hospital principal Sandip Ghosh has appeared before CBI sleuths for questioning several times regarding this case. His repeated interrogations have not clarified his role sufficiently, prompting further investigative measures.
The discovery of the trainee doctor's body has sparked significant outrage and calls for justice within India’s medical community. The incident has drawn national attention, highlighting concerns about safety and accountability within medical institutions.
The CBI's decision to seek a lie-detection test stems from their need to resolve discrepancies in Ghosh's statements. This step is seen as crucial for advancing their investigation and ensuring all facts are accurately established.
The ongoing investigation continues to unfold as authorities strive to uncover all details surrounding this tragic event. The involvement of high-profile individuals like Sandip Ghosh underscores the complexity and sensitivity of this case.
This development marks another step in seeking justice for the deceased trainee doctor and addressing broader issues within India's medical sector. The outcome of these investigative efforts remains closely watched by both legal experts and public observers alike.
