CBI Interrogates Senior Doctor in Connection with RG Kar Hospital Case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) recently interrogated a senior government doctor as part of its probe into the rape and murder of a medical professional at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Dr. Anjan Adhikari, who holds the position of medical superintendent-cum-vice principal at Kolkata Medical College and Hospital, was questioned at the CBI office located in the CGO Complex, Salt Lake.

Officials stated that Dr. Adhikari was summoned after investigators discovered his phone number in the call records of TMC MLA Sudipto Roy. Roy also serves as the chairman of the patient welfare committee at RG Kar hospital. The CBI sought to understand Dr. Adhikari's connection with Sudipto Roy and the nature of their conversations.

Investigation Details

Upon leaving the CBI office around 9:15 pm, Dr. Adhikari informed reporters that he was not asked any specific questions about the RG Kar hospital case. "They suddenly called me to appear this evening. I was asked about my calls with Dr Roy. There was no specific question regarding the RG Kar case," he said.

The body of the post-graduate trainee doctor was discovered at RG Kar hospital on August 9. This tragic incident has sparked significant unrest and protests, leading to further investigations by authorities.

Legal Proceedings

In a related development, a court has extended the jail custody for 44 individuals arrested for vandalism at RG Kar hospital until September 24. The vandalism occurred during protests over the rape and murder case, coinciding with Independence Day celebrations.

A mob had damaged parts of the hospital while demonstrations were taking place outside, highlighting public outrage over the incident. The investigation continues as authorities seek justice for the victim and accountability for those involved in the unrest.
