CBI Calls in Mathew Samuel for Further Questioning in Narada Case
Mathew Samuel, who conducted the Narada sting operation, has been summoned by the CBI. He is directed to attend questioning on September 18. This comes amid allegations from Samuel of harassment by the agency.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has issued a fresh summons to Mathew Samuel, the man behind the Narada sting operation. The CBI directive, dated September 12, orders Samuel to appear before its officers in Kolkata for questioning on September 18. This development comes as part of the ongoing investigation into the controversial case that has shaken political circles and raised questions about corruption at high levels.
Summons amidst Allegations of Harassment

The letter undersigned by an investigating officer states: "You are hereby directed to attend before me on September 18, for the purpose of answering certain questions related to the Narada case." However, this move by the central agency hasn't been received well by Samuel. Upon being contacted post-receipt of summons, he accused CBI officials of harassment.
Samuel voiced his concerns stating that he would only comply with their request if they agreed to cover his travel expenses from Bengaluru to Kolkata and back as well as his accommodation costs during his stay in Kolkata. He further added that given his medical conditions it is not feasible for him to travel via train.
Past Interactions with CBI
This isn't Samuel's first interaction with CBI sleuths regarding the Narada case; he claims that he had been questioned at least ten times priorly. His most recent encounter was in December 2019 when he willingly cooperated with them hoping for truth emergence from these investigations.
"I always cooperated with them as I wanted the truth to surface," said Samuel expressing frustration over what seems like a slow progress in solving this case despite repeated interactions and cooperation from him. He also reiterated his willingness to participate further if provided airfare and accommodation support considering his health condition.
Narada Case: A Brief Overview
The Narada sting operation, conducted by Mathew Samuel, is a high-profile corruption case that surfaced in 2016. The sting operation allegedly captured several politicians accepting bribes on camera, leading to political upheaval and subsequent investigations into the matter.
In conclusion, this recent summons issued by CBI indicates the ongoing efforts to probe deeper into the Narada case. However, with allegations of harassment from Samuel and his demands for travel and accommodation expenses to be covered by the agency due to health reasons, it remains to be seen how this situation unfolds. Will these developments expedite the progress of the case or add another layer of complexity? Only time will tell.
