CBI to Determine Fate of Missing Ali Abbas from Uttar Pradesh
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken over the investigation into the disappearance of Ali Abbas from Kaushambi district, Uttar Pradesh. Abbas went missing last year, and the CBI's involvement follows directions from the Allahabad High Court, which has asked for a report by August 30.

High Court's Directive
The Allahabad High Court directed the CBI to investigate whether Abbas is dead or being held captive. The court's order came after Abbas' father filed a petition alleging that his son and a girl were killed by Dileep Yadav, Akash Yadav, and others. This petition was initially submitted to the UP chief secretary on May 15, 2023.
Abbas and his friend Saifi were accused of kidnapping a 17-year-old girl from her college on April 27, 2023. Later, Abbas' father sent another plea to the superintendent of police via registered post, claiming that his son and the girl were kidnapped and held at an undisclosed location by the accused.
Police Investigation and Allegations
On August 11 last year, police recovered the girl and recorded her statement before a magistrate under section 164 of the CrPC. Based on her statement, the prosecution alleged that Abbas was killed and added relevant sections against the accused. Police also claimed to have found blood-stained clothes belonging to Abbas from one of the accused, Guddu.
Guddu's counsel argued in court that Abbas was alive and living with his uncle in Dubai. They contended that murder charges were filed without finding Abbas' body. The court noted that the investigating officer had submitted a charge sheet under Section 302 IPC based solely on the recovery of Abbas' clothes without any reliable evidence or recovery of his body.
CBI's Role in the Case
The CBI has re-registered the Kaushambi police case related to the alleged kidnapping of the minor in which Abbas was the main accused. According to procedure, the CBI re-registers the FIR of the state police as its own case. The agency's final report will be submitted before a special court, which may or may not agree with the allegations in the FIR.
The court described it as a serious matter and handed over the probe to the CBI. The officials stated that this step was necessary due to the gravity of the situation and to ensure a thorough investigation.
The outcome of this investigation remains crucial as it will determine whether Ali Abbas is indeed dead or being held captive. The CBI's findings will be pivotal in resolving this case and bringing justice to those involved.
