Cauvery Row: Kannada Actors Shivaraj Kumar, Sudeep, Darshan Break Their Silence
Amid the Supreme Court's refusal to interfere with orders of the Cauvery Water Management Authority and Cauvery Water Regulation Committee directing the Karnataka government to release 5,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu, Kannada actors Sudeep and Darshan have spoken about the issue, batting for a resolution.
On X (formerly Twitter), Kiccha Sudeep said, "Our Cauvery is our right. I believe that the government which has won with so much consensus will not abandon the people who believe in Kaveri. I demand that the experts formulate a strategy immediately and give justice. I also have my voice in the land-water-language struggle.May Mother Kaveri protect Karunada,"

Another actor Darshan too extended the support for the cause. "There has been a continuous attempt to get more water by cutting the Kaveri water from Karnataka's share. This year there is a lot of water scarcity in the state. At this time, there is a lot of damage to the irrigated area, so let's consider all the statistics and get justice as soon as possible," he tweeted.
On the other hand, the Supreme Court on Thursday refused to interfere with orders of the Cauvery Water Management Authority and Cauvery Water Regulation Committee directing the Karnataka government to release 5,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu.
A bench of Justices BR Gavai, PS Narasimha and Prashant Kumar Mishra said it is not inclined to entertain the plea of Tamil Nadu in which it has challenged the decision of the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) upholding the order of the Committee on grounds that it is facing a drought-like situation due to deficit in rainfall.
The bench said expert bodies like the CWMA and Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC) have considered all relevant aspects like drought and deficit rainfall and passed the order and, therefore, it is not inclined to interfere with the order directing Karnataka to release 5,000 cusecs of water.
The Tamil Nadu government on Thursday ruled out any talks over the Cauvery issue and said the Supreme Court's verdict on the issue holds good and is the decisive factor.
Ruling out any scope for parleys as sought by neighouring Karnataka, state Water Resources Minister Duraimurugan indicated that Tamil Nadu will not compromise on its due share of Cauvery water.
"There's no scope for talks on the Cauvery issue, as parleys over the years did not yield any results," Duraimurugan told reporters when asked for his reaction to the Karnataka government's plea for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's intervention to resolve this matter by convening a meeting of four states: Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry.
